The economic stimulus package includes $650MM for that stupid digital converter box coupon. A bill that’s supposed to stimulate the economy is going to help more people watch TV. You know, I can’t believe that here in the U.S. we’re not even able to ask people to pony up a $50 ONE-TIME-FEE for a converter box.

Here’s an idea: lets impose a licensing fee per TV on an annual basis… The UK charges £139.50 per color TV (~$230). Given the number of TVs in this country, we’d probably knock off a big chunk of our debt with a fee like this.

I feel bad for our generation’s children and grandchildren… when they’re finally tasked with paying off our debt, hopefully they won’t be upset with us for making them foot the bill for our enjoyment of “American Idol”.
